When you read "what makes you beautiful", what comes to mind? How many 1D fans do we have out there?  I have to admit I love this song....but that's not what prompted this blog!
The word "Beautiful" can mean many things.....
Recently, a situation occurred that made me re-evaluate the meaning.  What makes ME beautiful?
In today's society, how many times do you scroll on social media and think "wow!  She's gorgeous!" or wish you could change something about your appearance?  Well friends, as women, it's a natural thing.  We often times compare ourselves to others without realizing that we ARE beautiful.  I know there are times when I look in the mirror and think EW, only for my husband to comment "you look so pretty today".  *insert eye roll*
We've all heard the phrase "you're beautiful from the inside out".  This statement made me think about body image.  How do you feel about your body?  If your first thought isn't "it's amazing"...you're not weird...and you're not alone.  But guess what friend!!  There are tips and tricks to change your mindset from negative to positive!
First thing--STOP COMPARING YOURSELF! When you look at pictures of women, ask yourself what you have that they may not.  What makes you different? Maybe it's service you do for others....maybe it's listening to a friend vent and taking them to get dessert!  Maybe you're AMAZING at eye make up (this does NOT apply to me LOL...I'm horrible).
Second--if you're overweight I can promise you that you aren't alone in concerns for your body.  The amazing thing about the body is it can transform!  For the longest time I thought-"I'm so fat and useless.  I don't deserve happiness".  To my surprise, I DO deserve happiness.  I deserve everything and more this life has to offer--and SO DO YOU!  Appreciate all that your body can do.  Remind yourself often that beauty is NOT just what you look like on the outside.  Surround yourself with positive people.  Do something nice for yourself!!!!  Get your hair done--get a mani/pedi--or just ask a friend/husband/significant other to watch the kids for an hour and walk around Target..alone..with zero distractions! (it's my happy place)
Third--don't just see the good and positive things--BE THE GOOD!  Think about your talents and share them!  If you love crafting, get some girlfriends together and have a crafting party.  If you love to sing--find that inner beast and grab a mic on karaoke night!
Meditate, laugh, get a massage, spend time with family, sing to music (even if you sound like a dying cat), write in a journal, have a dance party in your living room, take a nap...
Moral of the story: JUST BE HAPPY and find the good in what beauty you have, whether it be on the outside or inside.
Today WILL be a good day.  Love and accept yourself.
Guilt is a waste of time....so is comparison.
Self-confidence is the best outfit.  Rock it and own it girlfriend!
You got this...and I'm cheering you on!
    XO-
    Meg
